Switching from PBX to Unified Communications
Spend Less and Get More
You may already know that switching to a cloud-based service can reduce your CAPEX, but there are many other savings that are not as obvious. When you’re thinking about UC as a replacement for a legacy phone system, consider these points:
One Time Costs
Hardware: Up-front costs for a PBX can typically include a switch, application servers, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), fire and network costs, and upgrade and expansion costs. UC doesn’t require on-premise hardware, so your capital costs are eliminated.
Phones: Most PBX vendors require that you purchase phone sets. We give you the option to rent or purchase phones so you can better manage your capital budget.
Installation and Training: PBX systems need to be installed and maintained by skilled and trained technicians. Our Unified Communications platform is maintained by Eastlink specialists, and our administrative portal requires minimal staff training.
Redundancy: Eastlink’s UC platform is engineered with redundant hardware, networking, and infrastructure to provide the highest levels of availability. It would require significant capital expenditures to build a PBX to the same level of reliability.
Space/Power/HVAC: PBX systems require a dedicated communications room. They also consume power and need specialized heating and cooling. UC systems have no physical on-site requirements.
Technical Resources: PBX systems require on-staff or contract technicians for maintenance and provisioning. UC is maintenance-free and requires minimal training on the use of the web based provisioning tool.
Depreciation and Obsolescence: PBX systems depreciate and become obsolescent as newer technologies emerge. UC doesn’t require on-site equipment, and is constantly updated to the latest technology.
